Rebecca Malope | Gospel Singer | Johannesburg

Rebecca Malope is a South African gospel singer. Her journey starts back in 1986 before we even knew she would become the gospel superstar she is today.

As a young 21-year-old, Rebecca, armed with her desire to deliver God’s worship through music, alongside her sister Cynthia, made the great trek from her home township in Lekazi near Nelspruit to Johannesburg. The sisters hiked a whopping 400km.

This was Rebecca’s brave step towards the superstardom she would eventually reach all the years later. Rebecca has touched millions through her praise and worship, so much so she won the KORA All African Music Award for Best Gospel Singer in 2003.

Later on, by the time she reached her 35th album, a feat few actually achieve, Rebecca brought in big names to collaborate with to make her album a success. “Sis’ Ribs” as she is affectionately known, has brought on board Sizwe Zako as well as Robbie Malinga and Mojafela Thebe.

But that is not all. Rebecca is responsible for diversifying Afro-pop musicians Zahara, Naima Kay and Ntando. And recorded the AmaVIP album with her live band. This album has an important message, which is, in Heaven there is no middle or working class and everyone is equal in Gods eyes.
